日本ポー学会概要
19世紀アメリカ・ロマン派を代表する作家エドガー・アラン・ポーに絞って研究する学会は、世界広しといえども、三つの国にしか存在しない。1972年に設立されたアメリカ合衆国のポー学会と
2007年に創立された日本ポー学会、 2016年に出発したスペイン・ポー学会である。
しかし1999年に第一回国際ポー会議がリッチモンドで開催され、 2018年には国際ポー＆ホーソーン会議が京都で開催されて以降、世界各国のポー研究者の国際的交流はますます盛んになる一方だ。日本ポー学会は
2009年に初代会長・八木敏雄教授のもとで ポー生誕 200年を記念する国際会議を主催して以来、年次大会においても年刊機関誌『ポー研究』やニューズレター刊行、共同研究出版においても順調な発展を遂げ、昨今ではその成果を単著として世に問う会員も少なくない。そのようにして培った豊かな土壌から、以後の日本ポー学会は環大陸的ネットワークにおける対話もますます実らせていくだろう。

Sep. 25, 2006: Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Poe
Society of Japan (Original members were Takayuki Tatsumi, Shoko ltoh, Ken
Inoue, Keiko Noguchi, Hisayo Ogushi, and Shoko Miura)
May 18, 2007: Launch of the Society; A Ceremonial General Meeting and
Special Lecture by the President, Prof. Toshio Yagi at Keio University
Aug. 1, 2007: Issue of NEWSLETTER No.1 of the Society, edited by Shoko
ltoh, Officer of the Society (She served in this position from 2006 to
April 2009)
Sep. 21, 2008: The First Annual Conference is held at the University of
Tokyo
April 1, 2009: The Second President, Takayuki Tatsumi assumed office;
NEWSLETTER No.5 edited by Tadashi Miyakawa, Second Officer of the Society
(He has served in this capacity since May 2009)
June 12, 2009: Poe Bicentennial Book, The Japanese Face of Edgar Allan Poe, published by the Society from Kenkyusha, edited by Yagi and Tatsumi
Sep.19-20 2009: Edgar Poe Bicentennial Conference is held at Keio University
March 2010: Launch of Journal of the Poe Society of Japan (No.1), under Editor-in-Chief, Ken Inoue
Sep. 18, 2010: The Third Annual Conference is held at Hosei University
Sep. 17, 2011: Journal of the Poe Society of Japan No.2-3 are published; the Fourth Annual Conference is held at Tsuda University
Sep. 12, 2012: Journal of the Poe Society of Japan No.4 is published
Sep. 14-15, 2012: The Fifth Annual Conference is held at Kyoto Prefectural
University
Sep. 8, 2013: The Sixth Annual Conference is held at Rissho University
